The Script, Film Production, and Ministry Distribution

A couple of weeks ago we announced that we have found a film production company to lead the charge in producing The Paul Project tools for us. What an exciting answer to prayer that God has connected us with like-minded individuals who have professional filmmaking experience. They share our vision for producing new resources that will help people around the world know Jesus and follow Him.

handshakes world 4

The body has many parts, and as each member fulfills its unique role the body works together for the common good and overall health. In the same way, as we—The JESUS Film Project® and the production company—do what we do best, we look forward to seeing many people come to Christ and become true disciples.

To spell out a little more how this will work, it might help to these key phases in filmmaking—

  • Development: creating a compelling story, scriptwriting

  • Pre-production: hiring (all jobs including key roles such as producer and director), casting (actors), selecting locations, building sets

  • Production: filming the scenes, developing special effects

  • Post-production: film editing, music score, putting it all together

  • Distribution: strategically getting all of the resources—feature film, miniseries, and other print and visual tools—out to the intended audiences

The JESUS Film Project will take responsibility for the script development phase. God has given us a vision for a powerful resource. To be faithful to that vision we must first make sure we have a compelling script that tells Paul’s story while being faithful to Scripture and historically accurate.

During the filmmaking phases—pre-production, production, post-production—we will advise and consult with the filmmakers to ensure the films produced will fulfill the long-term ministry needs God has put before us. Throughout the process we will make sure the films remain true to Scripture.

Once the films are complete, we will take responsibility for their translation and ministry use around the world, just as we have done for decades with the JESUS film.

Right now, even as the script is still in process, the production company is moving forward with the pre-production phase, including location scouting in the Middle East and UK, and ongoing discussions with a potential producer.

Prayer Requests:

  • Please pray that The JESUS Film Project and the production company will work well together toward our common vision.

  • Continue to the pray for the location scouting team—Bryan Hickox (executive producer with the production company), and Eric Foster and Jim Green (JFP consultants).  They have already seen a lot of great potential filming locations on their trip so far.

  • Pray that good relationships will be built with the studios they’ll visit in the U.K, and that there will be a clear sense of God’s direction for which studio to work with on the film.

  • Also remember to pray for a compelling script that will draw many to follow Jesus.

Thank you so much for your continued prayers.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead …  (1 Peter 1:3, English Standard Version).

Wishing you a blessed Easter as we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection.

Location Scouting—Middle East and U.K.

Thank you for your prayerful partnership with us!

As we move forward with The Paul Project and 1,000 Days of Prayer, allow me to introduce myself.

For more than 30 years I have served with Campus Crusade for Christ in various capacities. Very recently God called my husband and me to move from Indiana to Orlando to work with The JESUS Film Project®, and for me specifically to work with The Paul Project.

I am very excited to see this vision realized. I don’t know where I would be today if I had not received intentional, ongoing follow-up in my very early days as a new believer in Jesus. As I consider the potential this project has to help others be grounded in their faith and become mature disciples of Jesus, I feel quite privileged to be involved.

I am also very excited about the emphasis from the very beginning on bathing this entire project in prayer. It’s quite impressive how many people have engaged in 1,000 Days of Prayer.

As we move forward here is the latest …

We have already prayed for various location scouting trips:

  • Israel, and Jerusalem specifically—where many important events in Paul’s life took place.

  • Greece and Turkey—areas where people heard the gospel for the very first time as Paul traveled about on his missionary journeys.

Even though these sites have changed a lot from the first century, filming on location where important events took place can be quite an inspiration for the actors.

Please pray for the upcoming scouting trip to the Middle East and U.K., April 12 – 26. Bryan Hickox, Eric Foster, and Jim Green will visit potential filming locations and meet with government officials in the Middle East. They will also visit studios in the U.K. to consider where to film interior scenes. Pray for the relationship with these film studios and for God’s clear direction about important location decisions.

We’re thankful for your commitment to pray for this project,

Update from Erick Schenkel

Over the last three years, the Lord has laid on our hearts the need for a new evangelistic tool to reach media-sophisticated audiences worldwide. In addition, we have witnessed a need for visual follow-up materials that will teach viewers how to put their faith into practice, leading to lasting life change.

As we pursued this project, the Lord led us to develop a three-part ministry strategy consisting of a Hollywood-quality feature film, an 8-part follow-up series that will equip church planters worldwide, and a set of correlated print and visual materials. We have called this “The Paul Project.”

We have been seeking a like-minded partner to help us produce this set of powerful ministry tools. We are excited to announce that we have found a partner film production company to lead the charge in producing these tools for us! This company is dedicated to producing life-changing films for the kingdom.

The JESUS Film Project® will continue to work with them as a biblical consultant and ministry strategist, ensuring that these resources meet our long-term ministry needs. Our plan is to use these tools to reach the media-sophisticated around the globe, just as the JESUS film has been used to evangelize least-reached people groups. These tools will not only support worldwide evangelism, but will also help in the planting of 5 million churches around the world.

As a prayer partner who cares deeply for the success of The Paul Project, you will continue to receive regular prayer updates. To ensure you receive future emails, please add to your address book. If the emails do not show up, be sure to check your spam folder.

Thank you for your continued prayers for this project! I believe it has the potential to influence tens of millions of lives around the globe, leading to lifetime laborers who are equipped to share their faith and reach the world.

God bless you as we continue to partner together in prayer for The Paul Project!

Logos Bible Software Update

Thank you for your prayers for Eric Foster and Jim Green as they visited with the management of Logos Bible Software a couple of weeks ago. We are very encouraged by their enthusiasm for The Paul Project and will continue to dialogue about how to provide The Paul Project resources for integration with their software.

Please pray for more partnerships like this that will enable us to distribute the resources far and wide. We’re so excited about the potential for helping people grow spiritually as they encounter the apostle Paul and are challenged to wholeheartedly follow Jesus.

“So we tell others about Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all the wisdom God has given us. We want to present them to God, perfect in their relationship to Christ. That’s why I work and struggle so hard, depending on Christ’s mighty power that works within me.” (Colossians 1: 28-29, New Living Translation)

Thank you for your continued prayers for this project.

A Potential Partnership

Partnership is foundational to The JESUS Film Project®. Over the past 35 years, we have partnered with hundreds of agencies to bring “JESUS” to millions around the world.

As we move forward with The Paul Project, we will continue to partner with other ministries, churches and agencies dedicated to sharing the truth of the gospel with the world. We have seen success in using our current films both in the physical world and the digital world.

This week Jim Green and Eric Foster are meeting with the makers of Logos Bible Software, to see if there is a potential for partnering with them to bring The Paul Project tools to the world through their software.

Please pray for safe travel and for wisdom as they meet, discerning the Lord’s will for our collaboration.

“For the Lord gives wisdom;
from His mouth come knowledge and understanding;
He stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
He is a shield to those who walk in integrity,
guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of His saints.”

(Proverbs 2:6-8)

Thank you again for being a partner with us on this journey. We are blessed to have you by our side as we follow Christ’s leading in this project.

God Bless You.

Production Process Update

This week, please join us in praising the Lord for a productive trip to England last week as our executive producer team met with writers for the feature film and the teaching episodes.

Pray for continued wisdom for the writing team as they develop a compelling story for the feature film that will bring the scriptures to life.

Pray for wisdom for the executive producers as they lead this project forward.

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”  Hebrews 4:12

We are thankful for your faithfulness in prayer,
Erick Schenkel

Choosing a Producer

Greetings to all of you! As we move forward on our plans for a series of tools based on the life of Paul the apostle, we are continually reminded that we need the Lord’s presence in every decision. Thank you again for your prayers. And thank you for encouraging others to pray for us as well—this week we officially reached 1,000 prayer partners for The Paul Project!

We are presently in discussions with a potential producer for the feature film. This is obviously a critical step to the creation of the film, since the producer will largely determine what kind of film will be made. We need God’s direction and wisdom as we decide if he is the right person, and if his schedule will be free for the time we need him. Please pray that we will clearly see God’s leading.

Now I have sent a skilled man…” 2 Chronicles 2:13

You shall speak to all the skillful, whom I have filled with a spirit of skill…” Exodus 28:3

Thank you again for your prayers; they are making a difference that will be felt in eternity.

God Bless You.
